Economic anthropology studies how human societies provide the material goods and services that make life possible. It has different branches. Some economic anthropologists study non-Western economies, which often rely on relations of reciprocity, tradition or exchange. Others study the cultures of modern western economies. For instance, since 2008 many economic anthropologists have turned their anthropological lens to the London City, trying to understand how its culture shapes the worldwide financial system.
